Šupinka

2016 | crystal glass | casting, cutting, polishing, gluing | 3×14×25cm

Šupinka (“Scale”) is a cast glass tray, freely inspired by the work of Czech glass artist František Vízner, whom I greatly admire.
His minimalist geometric forms, precise polishing, and ability to highlight the unique qualities of each glass technique guided my interpretation. The piece takes the form of a solid block of glass with polished surfaces contrasted by a relief structure on the underside. Rather than concealing bubbles or traces left by the mold, I emphasized these “imperfections” as an integral part of the work’s character. The title Šupinka (“Scale”) refers both to the texture of the relief and to Vízner’s playful habit of giving his works nicknames based on their forms.
